The Role

We are looking for a dynamic and entrepreneurial Tax Director with international experience to lead and expand our presence in the UK market. This is a key leadership role, perfect for someone with both technical tax expertise and a passion for business development. You will be responsible for bringing in new clients, advising UK and European businesses on U.S. tax matters, and shaping IMS’s strategy in the UK.

As the Head of Country – UK, you will play a critical role in growing IMS’s footprint, developing client relationships, and ensuring the highest level of tax advisory services. This role offers an accelerated pathway to partnership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development & Market Growth
    • Build and expand IMS’s UK client base by developing relationships with primarily UK businesses looking to enter or expand in the U.S.
    • Represent IMS at industry events, networking opportunities, and professional organizations.
    • Develop strategic partnerships with legal, financial, and advisory firms to drive referrals and business opportunities.
  • Client Advisory & Tax Expertise
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to UK and European companies on U.S. tax structuring, compliance, and cross-border planning.
    • Provide expert guidance on corporate taxation, international tax treaties, transfer pricing, and U.S. inbound tax considerations.
    • Work closely with internal teams and clients to provide tailored solutions that optimize tax efficiency while ensuring compliance.
  • Leadership & Growth
    • Lead IMS’s UK expansion, working closely with the leadership team to shape strategy and operations.
    • Mentor and support a growing team, ensuring high standards of service and technical excellence
    • Drive continuous improvement in service delivery, identifying opportunities to enhance client experience and operational efficiency.

Skills & Experience

  • CPA or Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification required.
  • International experience and mindset
  • Strong experience in U.S. international tax advisory, ideally with a focus on European businesses.
  • A track record of successful business development and client relationship management.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. tax laws, international tax treaties, and inbound investment strategies.
  • Charismatic leadership with the ability to inspire confidence in clients and colleagues.
  • Excellent networking and communication skills, with a natural ability to build relationships.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for growing a business and taking ownership of strategic initiatives.
  • Experience leading or managing teams is a plus.

Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities may evolve as your strengths and interests become clearer, but initial areas of focus and training will likely include:
• Supporting day-to-day bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping
• Managing accounts payable and receivable
• Liaising with clients and coordinating with external payroll providers
• Recording general ledger entries, accruals, and prepayments
• Preparing bank reconciliations and sales tax returns
• Assisting with year-end closing and basic tax administration
• Supporting communication with tax agencies and handling ad hoc administrative tasks

Ideal Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
• Strong understanding of U.S. bookkeeping and accounting principles
• U.S. payroll experience preferred
• Proficient in accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, etc.)
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
• Highly organized, deadline-driven, and able to work independently
• Interest in U.S. tax or international accounting is a plus

Primary Responsibilities
• Assist with U.S. federal and state corporate income tax preparation
• Support the preparation of international tax forms (e.g., 5472, etc.)
• Coordinate and assist with sales/use tax return processes
• Respond to tax notices, liaising with state departments and the IRS
• Provide payroll tax support
• Assist with internal management reports
• Prepare personal tax returns
• Gain exposure to transfer pricing processes
• Support state tax registrations
• Assist with personal property tax return filings

Ideal Requirements

  • A degree in Accounting, Tax, or a related field
  • A strong interest in international tax
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in a CPA or accounting firm, or internship experience in tax/accounting
  • EA or CPA qualification (or working towards)
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task, manage projects, and meet deadlines
  • Multilingual skills in French, German, or Spanish are a plus
